Expert running late-ers share their favorite breakfast bites before class when they’re in a serious time crunch.

When Summit High School students are in a rush, they will eat anything from McFlurries to crumbs found under their beds.

All high school students want a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning, but few have mastered the art of having five minutes to get up and get out. We asked those experts what they manage to eat for breakfast and compiled their answers below.
If making it to class just in the nick of time was an Olympic sport, Griffin Heil would be a favorite to win the gold medal. When his slightly warm toast with butter doesn’t fill him enough on the drive to school, he opts for one of the 25 McFlurries he keeps safely stored in his trunk in place of his spare tire, just in case. This is a completely viable option for Summit County high schoolers, where the average temperatures range from extremely cold to freezing 90% of the year and cars become natural freezers, keeping your breakfast from melting.
The second expert that was contacted for an opinion decided to remain anonymous. Why? They like eating bananas for breakfast when they’re running late: a valid reason to keep their name disclosed to the very unyielding and immature public.
Senior Mason Wescott, on the other hand, opts for a frozen Eggo waffle and an energy drink… or two. When every second counts, defrosting waffles in the toaster is not an option. The perks of a frozen Eggo, however, lie in the water crystals that form on the waffles, which provide you with extra hydration before a long day of school. While this doesn’t sound horrific, even Eleven wouldn’t eat this for breakfast. No offense, Mason.
Don’t have the luxury of readily available Eggo waffles? Make your own waffles… in class! It’s been done before. Remember to bring your batter, maple syrup, butter, and waffle maker while you’re sprinting out the door to catch the bus. Once you’re in class, kick the kid that always hogs the outlet out of their spot and get to cooking!
Finally, another anonymous participant said that they eat crumbs from under their bed for breakfast. While not particularly fulfilling, this breakfast option equips you with an immune system of steel. Someone just sneezed extra loud in class? No problem! The germ you ate this morning has got your back!
These students are prime examples of thinking outside the box and making the most of their situations. This should serve as a reminder to all students that breakfast is what you make it.
